I suppose always talking “music” can be a real bore, but all things musical can definitely relate to the general actions of life. Harmony is obvious. Rhythm seems pretty clear, but melody is a gift. Its what we all want. It’s the speed of a sprinter, the beauty of a painting. It’s the talent in a world. If you kick ass at work one day, no matter what that work is, that is you writing melody. That is what I’m looking for on a new level. Wonderwall, Penny Lane, The Scientist by Coldplay all have what I’m looking for…even Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. Bono definitely found that shit, believe me. When I look at the people I admire, I hear melody. I have few close friends but they all inspire me on some level. I should probably tell them more often. I’ll blog about that at another time. Anyhow, I witness melody in their actions. I see melody in a golf swing or a slow dance. It seems like melody is being written when two or more great moments connect. It can happen sexually or in a kiss. Its in everything we do. GREAT melody though..this is hard to come by. It’s the I Have a Dream speech. It’s Michael Jordan. It’s an era of great painters or musicians. It’s Bill Gates. I have great melody in some of my life. In fact, I feel like Train in concert is making great melody right now. It took harmony for us to find it. I have it in my family and my love for my wife and kiddos. I’m in search for it in my music now. I have always wanted words to come first or at least dictate the melody. It’s time to let melody dictate the message. I know who I am as a writer now more than ever. Melody is the part that I need the Universe to help me find more of inside myself. I need to call all angels and see what they want me to sing. It’s fun to think about the melody that is created around us every day. Paying attention to it is not always easy and musically we all need to hear it a few times to “get it”. At least I do. So, there you have it. I am in search for the worlds most meaningful melodies. I will study the greats and a few not so greats and then hope that through me and Train the Universe will want to send love and happiness to the world through us. I really appreciate that without you wanting us to do what we do, there in no inspiration to always want to be at a higher level. It’s not money or fame that motivates me, it’s hearing from so many of you that we make your lives a little bit better, even for a few moments. You all make our lives a whole lot better. Thank you! Let’s all make some amazing melody together or apart.
