“You’re paying attention to the wrong shit!”

Those were the famous words of my friend and manager, Jonathan, when I was upset about something a year ago. I was pissed that we were about to be on CSI NY with a few celebrities including Kim Kardashian and she Tweeted about the show and named everyone in the show except Train. I was like, “Whah whah whah a b+@#h!” Ha. What a loser I can be. JD was so right. I think of that advice every day now. It keeps me clear minded. Like, yesterday we were told that we would not be performing on the AMA’s. Hmm, I was disappointed for sure. It took me a few hours but I remembered that that was the “wrong shit” again. I am in Latin American playing music for people who are crazy for what we do and I am so lucky and fortunate and honored. That’s the “right shit”. Today we flew from Argentina to Brazil. As we landed, I got an email saying we WILL be performing on the AMA’s. Wow! What a great thing! So much better to try to always see it from a brighter angle. I’m not fool proof. I definitely behave like a child at times, but I really feel better about performing than being nominated or collecting a trophy. Music is why I do most everything, so now we can share what we do best with those who watch the AMA’s.

On another line, I am learning so much about food. Food Inc. and The Future of Food have done me wonders. I am looking to form a foundation to help children, as I mentioned in a previous blog. What better foundation than one that concentrates on a much better nutritional system for the children of the US and the world? I would love if you were all able to watch those 2 documentaries and maybe one called Killer at Large as well, so that we can all brainstorm about how we can all come together to educate and make healthy and organic foods affordable for everyone. I don’t want to preach. I really just want to get back to what humans knew so well long ago, in fact not so long ago. There has to be changes in out federal government but we have to start small and build until they have to take notice. While we are “paying attention to the wrong shit”, like terrorism, bailouts, insurance reform, tax breaks and increases, the government allows the most awful things to be sold to us without labeling because there is so much dough to be made by certain members of certain organizations including the US government. These products are making us sick, causing obesity, diabetes and other illnesses. Our children are not going to live as long as we might if we don’t do something. Look, I know all those things I mentioned earlier are important. My point is that they’re all so called “big items” and while they’re being discussed, none of us know what’s in our food. If you knew, you might not eat it. What’s more important than what goes into our bodies? We don’t think twice about cable costs, phone bills, computers but food? Well, we pass on the good stuff because we can get 10 times more of the bad stuff for the same amount of money.
Let’s come together and start paying attention to the right shit! Thanks for listening to my rant.

    Love, Pat
